A man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after a social media post threatening to shoot Nigel Farage was reported to police, the latest in a series of incidents that have raised concerns about the safety of public figures in an increasingly polarised political environment.
The post, which appeared on a platform that police have not named, was reported by a member of the public who saw it and recognised it as a credible threat. Officers from the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism command arrested the man at his home in Essex within hours of the report being made. He remains in custody.
