UK Politics: A Daily Junction Guide

Political news moves quickly, but the machinery beneath it changes more slowly. Daily Junction covers both: what politicians said or did today, and how Parliament, departments, regulators, courts, councils and devolved governments turn decisions into outcomes.

Follow the decision, not only the announcement

A proposal, consultation, bill, regulation and implemented policy are different stages. Headlines often compress them. Our aim is to identify which stage a story has reached, who has authority, what can still change and when the effect is expected.

Primary material is published by Parliament, GOV.UK, the Electoral Commission and the relevant devolved or local institution. Statistics should be traced to the body that produced them, with methodology and date visible.

How we handle political disagreement

Non-partisan does not mean treating every claim as equally supported. It means applying the same standard of evidence, context and correction regardless of party or position. Opinion is labelled and separated from reporting. Where a claim is disputed, readers should be able to see what is known, what is interpretation and what remains uncertain.

For our wider approach, read the editorial policy, corrections log and masthead.
